Reminder at a Red Light

Philippians 4:19~ But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Everything was quiet as I was driving– the only sound was the faint humming road noise. As I rolled to a stop at a red light, questions were rolling around in my head. Questions about the future– about college, about my dreams of being a writer, wondering if I’d ever meet that special someone, wondering what life would bring after school, pondering everything that was changing so quickly– it all overwhelmed me, and I felt my eyes start to mist just a little bit. The light turned green. “You are NOT going to cry,” I told myself firmly, “I forbid it. You may not cry.” I swallowed the lump in my throat as I continued to drive, but my mind searched its archives for a source of comfort. Finally it came to me– pushed to the forefront of my mind by my Jesus: “But my God shall supply all your need.” I heaved a breath of relief. All the way home, I sang to myself softly the third verse of the hymn “Complete In Thee.”

“Complete in Thee– each want supplied,
And no good thing to me denied;
Since Thou my portion, Lord, will be,
I ask no more, complete in The
e.”

~ “Complete In Thee” by Aaron R. Wolfe {emphasis added}

Our God is a great God. In fact, He’s Love itself. And He doesn’t want us to be afraid of the future; He doesn’t want us to take any thought of what tomorrow will bring. He only wants us to seek Him; and when we put all our cares aside and seek Him alone, we will know peace. The desires of our hearts will be realized only when HE is the desire of our hearts.

Prayer: Dear Father, thank you for being the Fount of Every Blessing. Thank you for having only the best in store for me, and for seeking me when I wander from You. Help me to look only to You for the joys of my heart. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  1. I love that God is “love itself”. His love is complete…anything else is temporal. Unfulfilling. Unsatisfying. Leaves you thirsty and anhungered. Anything else is incomplete.

  2. Paige….are you sure you aren’t me? Because that pretty much sounds like everything I worry about (except I don’t really dream about being a writer). And I also tell myself firmly NOT to cry just like that. Thanks for the reminder. I need it. Often.

  3. Truly, that is an amazing song, one of my favorites ๐Ÿ™‚ i do hope that by this time, many of those fears have subsided. Our God is one AmAzInG God!!!!
