Hello my readers and friends!
Valentine’s Day is coming up in a little over a week. With all the mushy, gushy, romantic mentality that comes with this time of year, I think we could use some Biblical fortification. I’d like to invite all of my readers, subscribed or not, to comment on this post, posting a verse about love that stands out to you. I challenge you to make that your meditation this next week. I’ll start:
“If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.” – I John 4:20, 21 (KJV)
Loving others is proof that we love God; and don’t be fooled! It is not enough to say the words. We’ve all heard the cliché “Actions speak louder than words.” It’s true! Love means sacrificial service, expecting nothing in return.
His Beloved's Desert Place 
“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” -John 15:13
What an awesome verse! Christ gives us a commandment in verse 12 to love each other as He loves us. Then He provides an encouragement and prophecy in this verse. He alludes to his upcoming death for the sins of all men and we are supposed to emulate His love. We can say we love someone many times, but the greatest way to show it is to be willing to lay down our own life for that person. God gave up His only begotten Son, and Christ died a cruel death on the cross in order to redeem us. I echo the songwriter, “How deep the Father’s love for us, how vast beyond all measure.”
How deep the Father’s love for us,
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
And make a wretch His treasure
How great the pain of searing loss,
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the Chosen One,
Bring many sons to glory
Behold the Man upon the cross,
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed I hear my mocking voice,
Call out among the scoffers
It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished.
I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection
Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom
Wonderful verse about Christ’s love. It’s so neat to know that we as believers have the opportunity to lay down our lives for Christ and for others every day! For what is sacrifice if not laying down your life for another, and mortifying the flesh if not killing it daily?
I love thinking on who my God is!
Zep 3:17 The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.
Excellent verse! The phrase “he will rest in his love” makes me think of I John 3:18- “…but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment.” If we can have the idyllic rest, it is only because Love has cast away our fear. Thank you for sharing!
My personal favorite “love” verse is Jeremiah 31:3.
The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.
Thank you for sharing! I love how the word “drawn” is used. It demonstrates such patience and gentleness, like someone taking your hand and pulling you close.
I epecially adore the word “everlasting”. His love is like Himself….from everlasting to everlasting.
Can you imagine what the world would be life if all of God’s attributes were not everlasting like He is? Can you imagine a God who is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent, but is not just, loving, or merciful? What a scary thought that would be. Praise the Lord that His love is everlasting just like every one of his attributes.
